Tinkling Tinkling Lights

The velvet cloak of night, a canvas bright, With diamond dust, a captivating sight. To left, to right, a thousand eyes did gleam, A joyful wink, a captivating dream. And from the heights, a serpent, luminous, A winding trail, a sight so wondrous. It spun and swayed, a fiery, glowing thread, Though only hues of amber, gold, and red, In rhythmic dance, on and then off they'd play, A vibrant spectacle to light the way. A sudden wonder, did my vision err? This twinkling dance, a joyful messenger. I stepped outside, to test if sight was true, And found the homes, bathed in a golden hue. Each humble dwelling, with an earthen grace, A warm embrace upon the night's dark face. A smile bloomed forth, a happiness within, As tempting sweets, a sugary world begin To beckon close, a feast for eyes to see, A joyful spread, so utterly free. My hands would reach, with longing in their quest, But whispers soft, of calories, suppressed. Why must this joy, a fleeting moment be? Why can't I tas...
